Shoutout to my special co-host this week, Ted Sanas for helping us all have a good time. It was good to get an alum of WRCT down in the studio. Thanks, Ted!

Trés Bien started five years ago as an indie/punk quartet from Florida. Last year they placed in the top 10 of Fox's battle of the bands. The track "The Way We Know How" is a very poppy, Burt Bacharach kind of track, which goes well with today's featured album.
Tonight's featured album, airing at 10PM on KZSU 90.1FM and kzsulive...
Brent Cash is a musician from Athens, Georgia, home to a scene that gave us REM, Matthew Sweet, and the Masters of the Hemisphere. His debut album, "How Will I Know If I'm Awake," is a pop album that hearkens back to the 60s and early 70s, channeling the likes of Burt Bacharach, and sunshiny California daydreams to the utmost.

The Corner Laughers came down to KZSU last Tuesday to do an in-studio set and interview. They were great! They covered lots of material from their 2006 release "Tomb of Leopards," along with exciting new glimpses at material from their next album. We talked about everything from their performance at the International Pop Overthrow to.. Biology! Thanks to Tom Baran for co-engineering the gig.
Here's the entire set from Tuesday's live performance, in streaming form:

Popshifter has recently published two great interviews, both by Less Lee Moore: one with Jason Falkner, and one with Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. Less has a deep, deep understanding of the music and musicians he interviews, without being showy. Both Jason and Roger really seem to enjoy chatting with Less about what they love about music. Check them out!
Fresh off of their set this Saturday at the IPO, The Corner Laughers will be coming down to the Palo Alto Pop Overthrow next Tuesday, August 19th, to do a live in-studio performance and interview. You won't want to miss it! For a sneak preview, check them out at the Rockit Room this Saturday at 10PM, or listen to their tunes on the Corner Laughers' myspace page.

Sebastian Litmanovich, a graphic artist from Buenos Aires, has released several daydreamy, 60s-esque pop albums over the past few years. The track "Tirados" is a standout track on this, his latest album. Sebastian was joined on this release by Jad Fair of Half Japanese, Duglas Stewart of the BMX Bandits, and Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub.
Tonight we're featuring the album "Shall Noise Upon" by Apollo Sunshine. Tune in at 10PM on the West Coast via kzsulive.stanford.edu.
The trio of Jesse Gallagher (vocals, bass, and keyboards), Sam Cohen (vocals and guitar), and Jeremy Black (drums) met as students at the Berklee College of Music in the early part of this decade. Their latest release, "Shall Noise Upon," was recorded last summer in the Catskill Mountains, in a supposedly haunted house. This has a direct effect on their sound - spacey, ethereal, and messy. Yet Apollo Sunshine also has its upbeat and whimsical, almost folksy, Simon and Garfunkel moments.
The first track we'll hear from the album is called "666: The Coming of the New World Government." Feedback, crazy distortion, and echoing guitars lace this song with an energetic, busy sound. "Shall Noise Upon" comes out on September 2nd. In the meantime you can stream it all for free on this blog.

Pas/Cal is an indie pop band from Rock City. They just released a new album last month, entitled "I Was Raised On Matthew, Mark, Luke & Laura." This track, "I Want To Take You Out In Your Holiday Sweater," is from their first EP entitled "The Handbag Memoirs."
This album is featured on today's airing of the Palo Alto Pop Overthrow. For more information and to hear cuts from the disc, tune in live on the web to KZSU Stanford, or over the radio at 90.1 FM in the Bay Area. The show starts at 10PM on the west coast.
The Greenberry Woods formed out of a songwriting friendship between guitarists Matt Huseman and Ira Katz that was forged during their years in college at the University of Maryland. Swiping their name from a condominium complex in Baltimore, and hiring a bigshot manager, John Lay, the band quickly completed their lineup and made it big when they were signed to Sire Records. Today's featured album, "Rapple Dapple," was The Greenberry Woods' first of two records during their shortlived career. Released in 1994, the band also recruited Matt's twin brother Brandt on bass guitar, and Miles Rosen on drums.
Music video for Adieu
The band's career, while short, was intense. In 1993 they opened for Squeeze on tour. In 1994 they shot two music videos to accompany the release of "Rapple Dapple." And in 1995, hot on the heels of their first release, they recorded "Big Money Item," under pressure from their label to follow up in a big way. Yet, not all was well for the band. The Huseman brothers were writing songs on the side with their guitar tech, Paul Krysiak, in what would eventually become the band Splitsville. Pressure from the label (which was merging with Elektra at the time,) in addition to the wandering focus of the band as a whole, finally caused The Greenberry Woods to be released from their contract in 1996, to which the members went their separate ways.
